Atlatl (pronounced At'-lattle)

The atlatl is a tool used to aid in spear throwing. These tools are generally called spear throwers (which differs from the person throwing the spear called a spearman or javelineer). The atlatl specifically is a carved piece of wood or bone with a cup to hold the butt of the javelin or spear. The javelineer holds the atlatl over his head and performs a throwing motion which propels the spear forward. The atlatl allows the javelineer to throw the spear from a greater initial height, with more accuracy, and more power.

In Australia, the spear thrower is called a woomera.

Great site I am wanting to learn how to use an aataltl I live in ohio as well love to hunt and fish.I just enjoy hunting the hard way anyone can grab a shot gun and shoot at running animals that are stressed out.But it take skill to stalk an animal until you get a shot.I currently bow hunt.I know I can not hunt this weapon in ohio yet but if I could Master the aataltl i feel it would help my hunting and who knows maybe even compete with it. I look foward to buying an aataltl from you. thanks Rusty Carroll
