Matteh
Matteh is Hebrew for staff, rod, or shaft and acts as a standard or instrument of worship like a prayer stick. In effect, the rod is the physical representation for the word of God and the term is used as a religious metaphor rather than referring to just a physical object. For instance, Matteh Moshe means "The Staff of Moses" and Matteh Yissakar means "The Staff of Issachar" but their meaning is figurative rather than literal.
