In the Norse Thidrekssaga, Ekkisax was the sword of Ekka. He was killed in a duel with Thidrek (Dietrich the Prince of Bern) because Thidrek's horse Falka crippled Ekka when he saw his master in danger.

The Ekkisax was forged by Alfrek (Alberich), the same dwarf that forged Thidrek's sword the Naglhring (Naglering). Thidrek decided to take the Ekkisax as his own, and gave the Naglhring to his friend Heimir (Heime).
