Kampilan
Location: Philippines
The kampilan is a single edged two handed sword ranging up to 40 inches in length. As the only two handed weapon of Philippine origin, it was used by the nobility rather than common soldiers.
There are many variations on kampilan design, however the most common swords have a large bifurcated pommel designed to provide a counter weight to the sword. The pommel represents either a crocodile's mouth or the tails of a swiftlet. The blade also has a spike at the tip, although some have had the spike broken off in combat while others appear to never have had one at all.
The kampilan is also an executioner's tool. It represent's the ruler's power over violence and the ability to rule through peace or war.
