The Adarga is a leather shield used by Moorish and Spanish horsemen. The shape of the shield changed over time from a round shield to a heart shaped shield and finally to a pair of overlapping oval shapes. Adargas were highly ornamental shields an were used in tournaments among Spanish nobles into the 17th century.
