Archer's rings are used primarily in eastern archery by the Turks, Mongols, and Koreans among other cultures. Unlike western archery in which the first three fingers are used, in eastern archery the first two fingers and the thumb are used. An additional loop is tied to the bowstring and the thumb is inserted in that loop. The archer's ring protects the thumb from the pressure of the string.
Simple archer's rings are made of bone, but historically they could be highly decorated and made of expensive materials, especially in areas were bow hunting was a sport. |
