In Edmund Spenser's "The Faerie Queen", Chrysaor ("Golden Sword") is the sword of Sir Artegal. Its lineage traces back to ancient Greek mythology in which Zeus used it in the Titanomachy, the war with the titans. It was forged from adamant, an impossibly hard Greek metal said to be so strong that it could cut through steel as if it were cloth, and nothing could break it.
