In Norse mythology, Brisingamen is the necklace of Freya. It is described as a gold necklace that bestows great beauty upon the wearer. In the Poetic Edda, Thor's hammer Mjollnir is stolen by the king of the Jotuns, Thrymyr. In order to retrieve it, Thor dresses up as Freya to attend a wedding in Jotunheim and must borrow the Brisingamen in order to complete the disguise.

In the Prose Edda, the Brisingamen is stolen by Loki. Freya asks Heimdall to look for it and after he discovers Loki to be the thief, successfully fights Loki and returns the necklace.
