Lucerne Hammer
Time Period: 15th-16th century
Location: Switzerland
Common Construction: Wooden haft with steel head
The lucerne hammer is essentially a warhammer mounted on a long pole. It has a four pronged hammer on one side, a spike or hook on the other side, and a spear on top. It is named for the Swiss town in which it was most popular. The lucerne hammer is very similar to the bec de corbin and the halberd, usually halberds have an axe instead of a hammer (but not always).
