A quillon is part of a sword's hilt designed to parry the opponent's blade. The quillon dagger has a hilt with an extended cross guard and a sword-like pommel. As sword quillons became more elaborate and decorative over time, the use of quillon daggers dimished due to the difficulty in transferring that amount of intricacy to such a small blade.
